About

This web site is intended to celebrate the way that mathematics and art feed off each other and show that mathematicians and artists have much in common.

A mathematician looks at the hull of a boat as a parabola,  an artist admires the elegance of the curve and the texture of the hull. Both engage with its visual beauty.

Artists can use mathematics to create beautiful patterns and structures. A beach drawing of a Fibonacci  spiral is easily completed using its mathematical structure. It’s appeal is enhanced by a sunset and its Golden Proportion.

As well as photographs of a “parabolic boat” and a “Fibonacci sand spiral”, this web site includes images of patterns and structures that, I hope, are visually appealing.
